The Barrelhouse Blues Band is a quickly becoming a staple in the Delaware Blues scene with a strong and loyal following. With a philosophy based on relating to and interacting with the crowd, the band creates a scene that fully engages its fellow "Hooligans" through great music, dancing, and completely unpredictible song introductions.
The band members hail from the Middletown-Newark-Bear area with strong roots in Delaware and Maryland. In addition to their frequent local appearances, the band can be found in the Delaware beach music scene in the Summer and Fall.
Band Members are:
 |
"Choo Choo Charlie" Rickner
A native of Philadelphia, "Chooch" has called Delaware home since 1968 and is now considered the "unofficial Mayor of Middletown".
His juicy harp riffs combined with a completely unpredictable and unruly presence at stage front engages the audience while his deep and sincere vocal style echos long lost voices of South Chicago and the Southern Blues scene. He'll captivate you with his stories and then draw you in to a world created only for those engulfed by the Blues.
As a founding member of Barrelhouse, Chooch helps set the eclectic mix of Blues stylings that are becoming known as our signature sound. |
 |
"Papa Joe" Antonio
There's no other place on Earth that Papa Joe would rather be than sittin' behind a drum kit hammering out a steady beat for this Blues band. A complete 'computer geek' by day; l that goes out the window once he locks into the kit and dives into a Blues gig.
One of the founding members of Barrelhouse, Papa Joe helped to drive the Barrelhouse sound to its present state. Never one to just replicate a cover song, Papa Joe pushes the band hard to create the 'Barrelhouse sound' and to bring out the best in each player.
He and high school chum Chooch started the band as an outlet to have fun, hang with their friends, and share some down home Blues music while they were at it!
"I love it when I see people captured by the same groove that the band is in", says Papa Joe, "that's the reason that we do this and it's nice to see people enjoying it with us!" |
 |
"Barstool Billy" Snyder
Barstool is a rocker at heart who has adapted extremely well to the Blues genre. With his driving bass lines and knack for flare, Barstool Billy puts in his work as a solid backbone for Barrelhouse songs.
He's also known to lay down some heavy duty and mean ol' vocals on such Blues classics as "Leevee", "Cool Guitar", and "Goin' Down". Billy has the rare distinction of being the only member of Barrelhouse to create an original tune, "Drive Me Home", which is gaining popularity with our Barrelhouse Hooligans and Hooliganettes. |
 |
"Nine Fingers" Tom Nowland
The nickname deceptively leads one to believe that this cat is missin' licks. And that ain't true! With his blazing guitar riffs and solid song foundation, Tom is recognized as a master of the genre.
True to his roots, this guy can hang with the best of them. Influenced by Jeff Beck, Joe Bonamassa, Eric Clapton and other greats, Tom has fallen in love with the Blues. And it's become his outlet for all things musical with a deep feeling of expressiveness.
The most recent addition to Barrelhouse, Tom is easily one of the more influential guitarist in the area displaying a style all his own that is frequently noticed by his very accomplilshed peers. |
